SOLE DEFINED, COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL JUSTICE

SOLE Defined is committed to presenting narratives through percussive dance that highlight the concerns affecting the Black community. This is done through our interactive performances as well as through Town Hall sessions with national performing artists and the facilitation of professional development workshops focused on anti-racism practices within arts-based education.

Our solution-oriented conversations are focused on confronting the issues within the greater arts community and working towards an understanding and building a solution. Our professional development workshops dive deep into addressing the practices and long-held racist beliefs to uncover unconscious biases and build abolitionist practices that Teaching Artists and Educators can immediately implement.

At the height of the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic, SOLE Defined engaged leading artists and experts in the field of dance and social justice in a series of lively and meaningful conversations focused on a variety of themes impacting the performing arts community. The series also included an Artist Spotlight featuring Black artists doing incredible work in the field. Below you’ll find the video archive of the solution-oriented conversation as well as resource material on how to get involved
